Tennis court floodlighting & maintenance
We have a scheduled plan in place for the Autumn as follows:
1. upgrade courts 1 & 2 floodlights to LED
2. replace lamp in court 7 that is not working
3. repair cracks in court 5 and convert to artificial clay
Unfortunately, these projects are all being delayed by global supply and distribution issues, as our contractors are struggling to obtain products. Originally, these works were scheduled for October, but we are now looking at the end of November or early December all being well.
Please bear with us as this is out of our hands – but we hope you’ll agree that these are exciting developments for the dark winter months and will be worth the wait!

Tennis trivia
Thanks to tennis member Tim Allen for noticing an interesting point of discussion in Andy Murray’s recent performance at the Indian Wells tournament, where he aced his opponent in a match using an underarm serve.
The Times reported: ‘An underarm serve in the early stages of the second set proved the catalyst for a stirring comeback from a set down.’ The article continued: ‘Despite being allowed under the rules of tennis, the underarm serve used to be considered a disrespectful tactic that is contrary to the spirit of the sport. In recent years however, it has received more acceptance both in the locker room and in the stands.’
Murray has described the underarm serve as a ‘perfectly legitimate play’, and Roger Federer has said ‘players shouldn’t be ashamed if they try it out’.
In fact, the overarm serve became the norm after 1878 when Arthur Thomas Myers used it for the first time at Wimbledon.
