Covid update – Step 3

Following the Government statement on 10 May, there are further updates regarding the reopening of facilities at the Club.

Squash & Racketball:
The great news is that the squash courts can reopen from 17 May. Full court play is permitted between players from different households – no squash bubbles or modified matchplay is required.
The court booking system is now open, but we will continue to operate a ‘buffer’ period between bookings to avoid large numbers in the corridor at changeovers. Please remember that, although the court booking period looks like 30 minutes on the system, it is a 45 minute period with 15 minute ‘buffer’ before the next booking.
Please can I ask that members avoid booking back-to-back courts during peak times. It is likely that the courts will be busy after such a long lay off, and we want all members to have fair access to the courts.
Memberships will now come off pause, so instalment payments will recommence in June. Renewal dates will be adjusted and extended to cover periods of lockdown where appropriate.

Changing facilities:
The changing rooms and showers are now open again. However, because these are areas of increased risk of infection, we are still encouraging members to come ready for play and leave straight afterwards if possible to limit numbers in the changing area.

NHS Covid-19 App:
With the indoor facilities in the squash courts opening up, please can all members using those facilities download the NHS Covid app and scan the QR code. You will find the QR code attached to the table inside the main door.

Tennis club play:
There is no longer a requirement to book for club play sessions, and we will go back to the more familiar drop-in activity. Someone will still be on site to supervise each session, and you will need to register with that person on arrival.
The compromise with moving away from using a booking system is that we are limited to a maximum of 30 players during any session. Therefore, if more than 30 turn up, we will have to turn away the 31st person, on a first come, first served basis. It is unusual for that many to attend so, hopefully, this will not cause an issue.
Also, there will be some changes to the club play format, sessions and times from 30 May, which will mean that all members will once more have the option to attend two club play sessions per week: either Wednesday evening/Sunday afternoon or Thursday evening/Sunday morning. Further information will be communicated nearer the time.

Bar & clubhouse:
We are still reviewing the guidance in order to decide when to reopen the bar & clubhouse facilities. Again, we will provide an update in a forthcoming newsletter, but we will be open for outdoor service at certain times from week commencing 24 May. We are hopeful that we will also open indoors for limited hours in the near future.

Obviously, all national guidelines on social distancing and hygiene should still be observed at all times. Hand sanitizer will be available at all entrances to courts and buildings.

We will keep you informed about further developments by newsletter as usual, as well as through our social media platforms. Also, keep an eye on the website for additional information.
