New Club Manager, Dez Lewington
Please welcome Dez Lewington our new Club Manager who starts on Monday, 11th April. Dez replaces Susan Finch who resigned last month.
Dez is already well known to many tennis members, including participants in the mixed singles league. He volunteered for the role of Grounds & Premises Director at the last AGM, so is already a familiar figure in the Board Room. Dez will resign as a Director when he assumes his new role, leaving a vacancy for anyone who would like to serve as a Director on the main Board.
Initially, Dez will carry out a similar list of duties as Susan did before but with the addition of the Grounds & Premises’ duties which Dez has done since the autumn. A copy of the amended job description is available for information in the members’ area of the website. The Board will review with Dez this summer, the scope for additional duties going forward .
The Board is confident that with Dez we have found the best. He brings considerable relevant experience having managed several sports/leisure facilities in Swindon including a community leisure centre with similar governance to our own club. In Swindon and in his more recent career in freelance field marketing, Dez has managed employees, contractors and casual staff. He has developed, managed, and run coaching and activity programmes and has several coaching qualifications though not in tennis or squash. He is IT literate, having worked in IT for the last 15 years, and looks forward to upgrading the club’s on-line calendars and booking systems in due course.
Speaking as his appointment was announced. Dez said “I am really looking forward to this new challenge at Sydenham. Susan has amply demonstrated that there is a job to be done and I hope to show that the club can only benefit from an enhanced Club Manager role. Taking forward the work of the Clubhouse Project Team is one of the biggest challenges of the new role. I have already served as a member of the team but I look forward to being able to give it all the time it needs to tackle this outstanding task from the original 2013 Business Plan.”
