Bill Buah
It is with great sadness that I have to inform members that Club tennis coach Bill Buah has passed away.
Bill contracted Covid-19 prior to Christmas, and was eventually hospitalised as the illness worsened. Unfortunately, after fighting it for several weeks, he lost the battle at the weekend.
Bill was a tennis coach for over 25 years, starting at Sydenham TC in 2004. In recent years he was particularly associated with the beginner/improver adults, helping develop confidence and skills in new players.
Many adult members started out with Bill when they were juniors, and he was still covering junior groups for the rest of the coaching team in December. He made sessions fun and instilled a love of the game in players.
I have passed on our condolences to his family on behalf of the Club. Bill’s son Wayne is making the funeral arrangements, which will be held in a few weeks time in the Dulwich/Peckham area. Please email me if you would like to attend so that I can give him an idea of numbers, or if you would like me to pass on any comments.
Bill was a great servant to the Club, and will be well known to many of you. He provided me with unstinting support since I have been here. He was such a familiar sight around the Club, and I find it hard to believe that I won’t hear him again saying ‘turn, turn, turn’ to coax a player into the right position for a shot. RIP Bill.
